Rioja was the first Spanish wine region to obtain DO status in 1925. In 1991, it was promoted to DOCa. Primarily known for its reds, Rioja also makes some great white and rosé wines. Tempranillo is the variety most used in this region. This gives the wines their elegance, concentration of aromas and complexity of flavours.
